February 2014 Minutes

Minutes for the Charleston Modern Quilt Guild Meeting on February 25, 2014

Business

There were 14 members in attendance and 2 visitors.  Welcome Patty.

Phoebe, President, opened the meeting and welcomed everyone.

In the future of ice storms/hurricanes/whatever kind of emergency please check your emails on meeting days/sew days for any up-to-date information.  Phoebe will also update our Facebook page.

National Modern Quilt Guild has issued another challenge with Michael Miller fabrics.  Signs ups were at tonight's meeting.

National Modern Quilt Guild will reprint our membership cards with our logo; we hope to have them next month.

Committee Talks

Charities:  Sandy spoke to us about making quilts for the Royal Family Kids Camp, a camp for foster kids ages 6-11.  It is for one week a year during the summer for 35 children.  Quilt should be 50” x 60”.  More information will be emailed to us.  Please take a guild label to put on your charity quilts.

Swaps:  We started our Modern Block of the Month challenge.  Each month we will receive a new pattern; you are asked to make a block to return at the next guild meeting.  At the next sew day, the blocks will be sewn into a quilt for one of our charity quilts.  You do not have to participate.  Our first block will be the Modern Movement Block by Letty at Happy Dance Quilting. Please use the background fabric and let the colors on the pattern be the inspiration for your fabric choices. You can use prints or solids.

Juanita and Keri received their blocks from the finish of last year’s block swaps.

Programs:  Kelly Biscopink, co-author of, Modern Designs of Classic Quilts (and our vice-president) gave us a little background on the publishing world.  She writes for Quilty Magazine.  She showed us her quilts/projects from the books and gave us the background stories on them.

Jennifer Leyh will be teaching a free motion quilting class on September 20, 2015.  Sign-ups will be at the next meeting, we think the class price will be $35; more info to come.
