Committee Reports
Charity –  On Wednesday March 11 CMQG members Susan B.,  Kathy,  Kerry,  Angie,  Hope and Casey helped residents of Florence Crittenton with sewing keychain chapstick holders.  The residents had fun and had a chance to make holders for themselves and friends.  The next scheduled event is May 16 but stay tuned for updates.

Swaps and Challenges – Connie presented the CMQG 2020 Modern Challenge.
Architectural Inspiration.
Choose an inspiration image of a created physical element. Could be a building; a stained-glass window; a tile floor pattern; a beehive; the interior of an ant hill; the corner of a room; the vein structure of a leaf; window blinds; etc. Literally ANYTHING built, and not just by humans. Some of the most amazing built items in the world are created by nature.
Challenge.
Create a MODERN quilt based on your chosen image. The interpretation should not be literal. Please do not take your image and make an exact replica of it. Explore different elements:
·      Color
·      Shape
·      Line
·      Texture
·      Shadow
·      Space / Void

Constraints.
1.   No side smaller than 18”.
2.   Styling: Modern.
3.   No limitations on colors or techniques (improv, applique, curves, etc.)
4.   Must include a copy of the inspiration image with your finished quilt.
5.   I highly, highly, HIGHLY encourage you to create your own design, but if you must use a pattern, please include the design source.
Timing.
Start...now!
Finish: October 27th CMQG Meeting
With our physical separations, please use social media to explore ideas and keep us updated with your progress! Instagram is so great for that. Please use #chsmqg2020challenge so we can find your work!
The next couple of pages are sample quilts to inspire. Please reach out to Whitner Kane at whitnerkane@gmail.com with any questions. Happy stitching!

Show and Tell – Brenda,  Phoebe,  Cathy,  Karen W.,  Alice A.,  Irene,  Casey,  Jean and Karen W.

Brenda made this great quilt and titled it " Connected" This is her pattern and a great use of bright colors.

Pheobe was inspired by the Movie "Little Women" so she ran home and whipped this quilt up out of her scraps. What a great quilt that used traditional blocks in a modern design.

Once again Cathy wowed us with a quilt. This one is made with circles and half square triangles.

Karen showed us this great quilt that she made using bright and graphic fabrics, and her use of asymmetry with her design and negative space was great.

Alice went to QuiltCon and took some classes while she was there. She shared some of the samples that she made in the classes. This one is a work in progress.

Alice wastes no time putting what she learned at QuiltCon into play.

WOW, what a quilt. Irene out did her self with this quilt. She named it " Tooth and Nail" it was a Victoria Findlay Wolfe Pattern. I am sure Victoria would be prod of Irene's work.

Casey made these quilts using scraps from her stash. and the back was improvisational in its design.

Casey made this great quilt featuring a wonderful elephant, this could be a wall hanging or a baby blanket.
