SEPTEMBER 2023 MEETING MINUTES

In Attendance

Tonight we had 24 members, 4 visitors, and one new member, Kathleen Rodgers.

President's Report

Amy displayed upcoming events for the remainder of 2023 and into 2024.  Amy announced that the Board has created a new Committee, Quilt Camp, and thanked Kim for her many years of doing this solely on her own. The new committee, consisting of Amy, Phoebe, and Susan and will work closely with the Finance committee. 2023 Quilt Camp is booked for Sept. 5-9 at St. Christopher’s; more to come.

In addition to the By-Law for Committees being amended, other changes are to the Elections, which will now take place in November rather than January, solicit new officers in September and nominations due in October.   Other By laws added:  President does not pay dues.

She announced that most of the Board Officers will continue another year, and that Jean is Pres. Elect (for 2024.)

Committee Reports

Swaps/Challenges – 18 Barn Quilts were displayed tonight. Good job, everyone!   The Scissors Case swap is due in November and the Red & White Unleashed challenge is due in March.  The Series challenge is due in Feb.  Sign-up sheets were distributed for those interested in submitting their Barn Quilt or Series in the Cobblestone Show.

Programs – Trash to Treasures exchange raised $260 and will become an annual event. November is Strip Poker, and October is Jennifer McClanahan with a trunk show.

Sew Day in October will be at Fashion Fabrics – NOTE change of location.

Charity – Amy talked about a very generous donation of minky fabric for foster children’s quilt backs and a Thank You card was distributed for everyone to sign. Anyone wanting to sew a charity quilt for foster children should contact Kate, who has assembled kits, complete with batting and backing.   Susy distributed a sign-up sheet and the pattern for Christmas Stockings for Miss Kramer’s kindergarten class, due NLT Dec. 3. Eighteen stockings are needed.

2024 Board Officer & Committee Chair Nominations – Please consider nominations for Vice President.  Also, all members should start deciding which committee they will serve on in 2024: Programs, Outreach, Challenge/Swaps, Special Events, Hospitality, & Social Media.

Quilt Show

Linda reminded us about the upcoming Coastal Carolina Fair, Cobblestone Quilt Show, and Quilters of South Carolina and participation in any or all of these. Please see August’s minutes for details, or contact Linda Ambrose.

SEPTEMBER 2023 EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING MINUTES

Amy opened the meeting with the following agenda items: By Law changes, 2024 Board and Committee Chairs, and Cobblestone Quilt Show Support.

2024 Board and Committee Chairs:

·       Jean Craig has agreed to CMQG President-Elect for 2024. Phoebe, Elaine, Lex and Corinne agreed to second terms as Treasurer, Outreach, Social Media and Secretary, respectively. Kerry Bevers is okay with Programs but needs assistance.

·       Chairs are needed for Special Events and Swap/Challenges.

·       It was proposed to amend the Membership Form with Committees that members can check off to join.

·       Discussion about Programs fees charged by speakers and what amount of the budget is available.  Move fund from Events to Programs is a possible solution.

Changes to By-Laws:

·       Move Board Elections to November, solicit in September and Nominate in October.

·       President doesn’t pay dues.

·       Add Quilt Camp to Committees as new committee.  Quilt Camp is open to non-members on an invitation-only basis.  Non-members registration fee may have non-member fee added.

Cobblestone Quilt Show Support

·       The suggested amount of $2000 is not supportable per Guild’s annual operating budget, but a lesser amount may be considered.  Discussion included that CMQG is entering Barn Quilts and Series quilts and therefore individual members will be submitting registration fees for all of those, registration fees amount has not yet been announced.  More information is needed to make a final decision on CMQG financial support for the Show.
