Minutes for the Charleston Modern Quilt Guild Meeting

February 4, 2014

Business

There were 14 members in attendance and 2 visitors. Welcome Amy and Whitner!

Phoebe (President) opened the meeting and welcomed everyone.

Due to snow/ice storm, we postponed our January meeting to February 4. Moving forward, we will create a phone tree list in case of emergency, weather, etc.

The Lancaster Shop Hop is on February 15, 2014. There is a $3 admission price. If you want to go contact Phoebe (charlestonmodernquiltguild.com) so a decision can be made about whether to rent a van or doing a caravan for this event. (http://onestopshophop.wordpress.com/)

The Riley Blake Challenge has been extended to February 17, 2014. Please post your photos of finished projects on the Modern Guild Challenge forum. Great job gals!

Stitch n’ Sew and Sew n’ Sew are giving guild members a 10% discount when shopping at their shops. Just let them know you're a member at checkout.

This is the last month for the block swap. We received instructions for Juanita's block and Kerri's block this month. Please return both blocks at the February meeting. Next month, we will start a Block of the Month program, and we'll use the blocks to make charity quilts. More information coming soon.

The Cobblestone Quilters Guild will be hosting their quilt show February 28-March 1, 2014. Please check their website for additional information

We will be moving our May meeting to May 13, 2014. At this meeting, we welcome our first speaker, Rachael May, the author of Quilting with a Modern Slant. Mark your calendars!

Committee Talks, Swaps, & Show and Tell

Programs: Kim McPeake offered her insights on attaching a sleeve to the back of your quilts for hanging in shows.

Swaps: Tonight we swapped Valentine's Day Themed Mug Rugs! So fun! Stay tuned for future swaps/challenges.

Quilting Bee: Juanita and Keri will be our last block swaps. Juanita has asked us to make an Island girl block by adding 2 fabrics. We are sewing dots/circles onto background fabric provided by Kerri. Make sure you use fabrics that have dots or the illusion of circles printed on the fabric.

Show And Tell: We had a great show and tell. Thanks to all who contributed, and keep bringing those great quilts!

Our next meeting will be Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at 6:30pm at the Heritage Trust Bank at 847 Coleman Blvd.
