Business: Jean opened the meeting with introductions.
The Berkeley Modern Quilt Guild will again feature its Airing of the Quilts September 21; more information to come. Linda Ambrose reminded us that the Fair opens on Halloween and if you want to make entries for quilt display, check-in is Oct. 19 & 20. Approximately $255 was raised in last month’s swap market and will be used to purchase goodies to go into our December children’s stocking give-away.
Since Alexis is moving, the guild is in need of someone to step up as the Social Media coordinator, taking pictures and posting to Instagram and Facebook pages.
Phoebe sent a Quilt Camp email recently with details. Amy mentioned that there are still spots available. Reach out to Amy or Phoebe for details if you want to register. Dates are 9/5-9.
Rick suggested the guild do an informal Christmas Quilt display at a senior living location in Mt. Pleasant, where his mother resides, to spread some holiday cheer to seniors. More information will be forthcoming.
Program: Corinne Appleton presented about a new quilt cataloging app called My Quilts, after attending a presentation about it at QuiltCon. MY Quilts is a free phone app that allows you to create an account/profile and add pictures and other relevant information about the quilt. You can also “follow” other quilters who are members and see other’s quilts for inspiration. The website has several videos about the app and how to create a profile, etc. Since it’s a new app, there will be updates as needed. It allows you to have a handy reference at your fingertips of all your sewing projects to show and share with others, as well as a reference for your own uses.
Challenges/Swaps: Kim reported that the scraps swap was fun and talked more about the upcoming Churn Dash challenge, suggesting ideas to make it modern. There is no size limit and is due at the November meeting. Email Kim or Rick with your questions.
Sew Days: Cathy Beemer will not be at the July 20th sew day at Five Eighth Seams. Louisa Enright will be the point of contact and will feature a Big Stitch quilting technique for those interested. Doors open at 9:30.
Charity: 6 quilts were shown tonight as donated. Kate has more kits available for quilts and pillowcases.
Workshops: Susan shared some blocks she made of the pattern to emphasize the many varieties it can be made. The upcoming workshop is mostly filled, but there are a few more spaces left for those interested in the Wayfinder Quilt. The workshop is Oct, 19, 10-5. $20 is required to hold your place and the remaining $35 is due by Oct. 15. You are expected to purchase the pattern. The Improv Workshop by Annabel Wrigley (in-person) is tentatively scheduled for May 17, 2025.
