JANUARY 2024 MEETING MINUTES

Business:        New 2024 Officers: Jean Craig, President; Stephanie Cheng, VP; Phoebe Harrell, Treasurer; Corinne Appleton, Secretary.  New President Jean Craig opened the meeting with introductions all around.

Cobblestone Quilt Show Details point of contact is Linda Ambrose. Linda distributed Cobblestone Quilt Guild membership forms for those who wish to join our sister guild. Cobblestone meetings are the 2nd Saturday of month and meet at Yeaman’s Park Presbyterian Church in Hanahan. The Cobblestone Quilt Show is March 15 & 16, 2024 at the North Charleston Athletic Center, 5749 Casper Padgett Way. Charleston MQG will enter the Series Quilts, the Eyes Exhibit and the Barn Quilt Challenge quilts.  Barn Quilts should be brought to the Feb. meeting and turned in for the show. Linda gave instructions about turning in quilts.

Jean demonstrated the blog and where to read the monthly meeting minutes and how to find posted documents. It’s recommended for everyone to log in at least once a month to keep up with activities. We also have a Charleston Modern Quilt Guild Facebook and Instagram pages.

Program / Challenges:   The Series challenge was the Program tonight as all participants displayed their 3 quilts.

The Red and White Unleashed Challenge is due at the March 26 meeting.

Rick Sanchez and Kim McPeake agreed to Co-chair the Challenges/Swaps committee for 2024.

We still need a Special Events Chair and committee.

Sew Days:       Sew Days are the 3rd Saturday of the month, usually held at Five Eighth Seams, 9:30-12:30. Cathy Beemer will feature “strippers’ – ideas to use scraps in strips for improv quilting.  Bring solid color scraps.

The Carolyn Friedlander zipper pouch class participants displayed their pouches from the previous weekend class.

Charity:          Bring in fabric to donate for making charity quilts, as well as make pillowcases.  40x60 size is preferred. See Kate Weston for details.  Suzy shared a sweet video of the schoolchildren receiving their handmade stockings and goodies and thanked everyone who donated Christmas stockings and candy for the elementary school gifting last December.
