November 2019 meeting minutes

Business – Whitner opened the meeting at 6:33pm,  welcoming 27 members and two visitors from Mt. Pleasant.

Committee Reports
Special Program for 2020 – Timna Tarr has confirmed her trip to Charleston for the weekend of October 9-11, 2020.  A Friday evening lecture and Trunk Show will be followed by a two-day class combining instruction from her Designing with Flying Colors, Map Quilts and Maps with Fabric classes.  The two-day class will accommodate 20-25 students.  Stay tuned for sign-up and venue information!

Charity – CMQG members gave generously of their time and sewing skills to make Christmas Stockings and special gifts to stuff the stockings for Florence Crittenton residents.  Connie, Sandy and Hope and any members who can come out plan to give them to the girls when they meet for the November sewing session (11/13).  The guild is providing materials to make matching fleece beanies for the mom and baby.  Thank you for embracing this charity and sharing with these girls!

Swaps and Challenges – The 2019 CMQG Two-Color Challenge has been submitted to AQS.  New Swaps and Challenges will be announced in 2020.

Program for December – Please join us on Sunday Dec. 8 at 2pm for our Holiday Party at Lynn C.’s home.  Bring a gift to exchange (up to $25) and either a sweet or savory snack to share (fingerfood).  An email will be sent out to sign up for snakes closer to the date.

November Program – Tonight Amy introduced us to Lucy Boston and the art of English Paper Piecing (EPP).  Lucy Boston was a British children’s author and quilter who combined the designs found in different fabrics to make her unique ‘Patchwork of the Crosses’ blocks.  Amy had many examples of these beautiful blocks using contemporary fabrics.  She walked us through how to use a bi-fold mirror or open template frame to audition fabrics and then use a template block to fussy-cut and design our own blocks.  The results were impressive and she has already inspired many members to give this technique a try!

Looking Ahead -   New Officers and Committee Heads will be voted on at the Jan. 28, 2020 meeting.  Jenifer (Vice President) and Elaine (Secretary) will continue in these positions for 2020.  In addition to the offices of President and Treasurer,  we will need to have Committee Heads for Programming,  Special Events,  Community Outreach,  Challenges and Swaps,  Charity,  Membership and Social Coordinator.  If you are interested in the offices or  heading up any of these committees for 2020 let Whitner know by Dec. 12.
