March 2018 meeting minutes

BUSINESS
Geri opened the meeting welcoming 21 members and 3 guests.

She recognized Guild members who presented quilts in Cobblestone Quilters' Guild show in March.

PROGRAM

Sandy introduced our speaker, Clara Fugua, who facilitates workforce development and community initiatives at Charleston Florence Crittenten Home. Clara outlined the services available to the residents and volunteer opportunities. Our guild presented 14 baby quilts to Clara for FCH.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Programs:  Kim

At the April meeting Connie and Alice will demonstrate Flat Face binding.  Hope and Connie will present Members Trunk Show.

Charities:  Sandy

Florence Crittenten Home needs items for their foster care residents.  Throw size quilts, $5 Walmart cards, cosmetics etc.  Blocks for Thomas Fire Relief quilts are due at the April Meeting.

Swaps and Challenges:  Phoebe

Construct bags suitable for cosmetics, pencils/pens etc. for foster care residents at FCH.

Special Events:  Lynn

Sew Day April 20 at Five Eights Seam beginning at 9:30am.  Members making the LARGE tote are asked to purchase pattern at PPQ Summerville.

Next guild meeting is April 24.

Victoria Findlay Wolfe will be teaching Double Wedding Ring (a pillow) on Sat. Oct. 13 and  Cascade Quilt on Sun. the 14.  Both classes will be at Five Eights Seam.  The Cascade Quilt is in MODERN QUILT MAGIC.

Peggy and Colleen shared quilts illustrating their quilt journey.

Lynn modeled a short sleeve Liberty print shirt.

Cathy shared a quilt top made from the bag of scraps she received in guild's scrap swap last year.

Alice shared a shamrock wall hanging with flat face binding and her first attempt at "match stick" quilting.

PAST PRESIDENT'S GIFT

Phoebe surprised Lynn with the guild's 2017 QuiltCon Savannah charity quilt which benefited MUSC Children's Hospital. The quilt was designed by Whitner and quilted by Marybeth.
