February 2018 meeting minutes

BUSINESS
Whitner opened the meeting and welcomed 21 members and 2 visitors.

Whitner congratulated Coleen, member, whose quilt earned 3rd place in the American Patchwork and Quilting’s flying geese challenge.  Colleen’s quilt was displayed at QuiltCon 2018 in Pasadena.

PROGRAM
Becky Robinson, owner of Sew Suite Studio in Summerville, demonstrated quilting with rulers (available at her shop) on domestic sewing machines.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

PROGRAMS:  Kim 

Kim previewed programs for 2018.  She announced that in addition each meeting will include a Members Trunk Show.  Presenters will display two or three projects along with answers to the questions.  Alice has sign-ups for 2-3 presenters each month.

CHARITIES:  Sandy

Florence Crittenton Home will be our focus for 2018.  Baby quilts and “throws” are requested as well as $5 Walmart cards, toiletries and water bottles for foster care residents.  Lamps are needed as the home is quite dark.

Carol has volunteered to deliver donated items to FCH.

Sew Day, March 17, will be devoted to construction of baby quilts.  Sandy will provide pdf suggestions for baby quilts.

Guild is considering the submission of a QuiltCon charity quilt be limited to every other year when held on the east coast.

Members are asked to bring in two blocks for the Thomas Fire Relief (California) at the March meeting.

SPECIAL EVENTS:  Lynn
  • Celebration of Quilts March 9-10 at Omar Shrine Temple Convention Center sponsored by Cobblestone Quilt Guild
  • SEW DAY March 17 at Five Eights Seam beginning at 9:30 am
  • Next Guild meeting is March 27
  • CMQG is bringing Victoria Findlay Wolfe to Charleston for 2 full day classes.  Oct 13 & 14, 2018
