April 2016 meeting minutes

Lynn called the April meeting to order and welcomed our guest Karen.

New Business
An announcement was made that the QuiltCon faculty was announced for the 2017 event.   It is available on the Modern Quilt Guild website.  More information will be available soon.

Next Sew Day is May 21.  An email reminder was sent out with details on time and location.

Charity
Geri discussed the Charity Quilt Challenge for QuiltCon 2017.  She asked the group to come up with original designs within the guidelines set by MQG.   These designs should be submitted by the next meeting and the guild will vote on which design to make.   The sew day in July will be for the Charity quilts.

Programming
We still have more spots to fill for Latifah, so please share the information with friends and family and post on social media.

Swaps and Challenges
Tamie and Jackie announced the May challenge.  The guild provided Art Gallery fabric by Bari J. for a block.  Then each member selected a traditional block to make modern.  The quilt will be made into a quilt for charity.  Please bring back your scraps for filler blocks. For examples see http://modernquilts.mqumag.com/challenge/

Amy announced a new quilt along/challenge and told the guild about Chuck Nohara’s book 2001 blocks.  Each month a few blocks will be selected from the book for the group.   Since there are no instructions in the book it will be fun to see how everyone puts the blocks together.  Many blocks can be done by handpiecing, traditional piecing or applique.  If someone has a particularly interesting way to put them together, they may share that with the group at the next meeting.

Show and Tell
Alice made a lost sock quilt- very cute.   Each sock was a different size and fabric, no matches.

Sarah shared her Cleveland Area Rucking Club Quilt.

Sarah, Geri, Amy and Sandy all shared their smocks made at the last sew day under the instruction of Lynn.

Iliana showed a quilt she made from a Missouri Star pattern.  She also made a star quilt which she donated to charity along with a walker caddy she also made for charity.   Iliana also made a half square triangle quilt and a curvy quilt.

Lynn B. showed off a quilt she made for her daughter.

Lynn C. modeled her newly made Merchant and Mills dress and a Noodlehead Poolside tote.  She also shared with the group an improv baby quilt she made.

Keri brought a crochet wrap she made.
