Lynn our newly elected president opened the meeting by
welcoming three new members. Each of the
new members introduced themselves.
Cheryl just moved to Summerville and her sewing room is already unpacked
and ready to go. Elaine just found out
about the group and decided to join.
Carrie found the group through Instagram and decided to join. She started quilting a year and a half
ago.
Committee Updates
Kim reminded
everyone of the fat quarter swap and gave out a new challenge. Everyone was given supplies for a pot holder
and the challenge is to do improv piecing.
These will be swapped next month. She said that many of the group wanted
to work on FMQ this year and she wanted to encourage it with this
challenge. She and Sandy are doing the
Leah Day Block of the Day FMQ challenge.
Committees gathered and planned for the year ahead.
Program
Lynn and
Phoebe did a QuiltCon recap and shared photos from their trip to Pasadena.
Show and Tell
Phoebe
modeled her newly made Bess Top, a pattern by Imagine Gnats. It was made with linen and an African wax
print. She also shared with the group
two projects she did while at QuiltCon.
Both were improv pieces - one from the Sherri Lynn Wood class and one
from the Gwen Marston class. She mentioned
Gwen’s book 37 Sketches and says that it is worth looking for.
Lynn didn’t
have show and tell, but told about taking Free Motion Quilting Classes at
QuiltCon.
Cathy
brought a sailboat quilt from a Carolyn Friedlander pattern, blocks from the Stitchery
Ditchery Dock BOM, fabric flower and her mini from the Michael Miller Challenge
Quilt.
Marybeth
finished her improv quilt she stared at camp and named it “I get cold too” quilt
because that is what her husband said when he asked her to make one for
him. She also showed a baby quilt top
she just finished.
Sarah shared
a quilt she did that was squares in squares in reds and yellows.
Geri quilted
one of her tone on tone quilts in red with scallops. The scallops created almost an optical
illusion. She also brought in the Guild
improv quilt to let everyone know that it will be in the Cobblestone Quilt Show. Geri also finished a Sherri Lynn Wood score
quilt.
Carol shared
in a Fairy Tale Quilt she paper pieced for her granddaughter and an extra large
hexie quilt made with Heather Givans Succulent collection.
Delynne
brought in an applique book by Alison Glass to share with the group.
Cheryl
showed a baby quilt she made that was quilted with variegated stitches.
Amy made a
pillow to go with the out going president quilt that the group made for Kelly.
And - last but not least! - the Project 48 blocks.
Our next meeting will be Tuesday, March 22 at 6.30pm at the Heritage Trust Federal Credit Union at 847 Coleman Boulevard. Doors open at 6pm. Don't forget to bring your name badges and your show and tell!
