Business/ Announcements: Jean opened the meeting with introductions. She announced thanks to Susan B for a successful Wayfinder Workshop this past Saturday. Rick finished his quilt at home and brought it and helped others finish their blocks. A 20% discount for her quilt patterns will be available through November with a code. Jean will share that code via email with membership. Rick had a template made.
Susan announced that the clubhouse has already been booked for Oct. 18, 2025 for another workshop, this time most likely led by local guild talent.
Christmas stockings for the elementary school are due by the November 19th meeting or December holiday party. Please bring a bag of holiday candy to November’s meeting to stuff in stockings for a chance to win a drawing.
Program: Angie demonstrated how to do freezer paper paper piecing for letters. Jean will send out a link to a YouTube video and materials list if you want to try at home. Next month will be Liz Dougherty from Free Spirit Fabrics.
Challenges/Swaps: The modern Churn Dash challenge is due in November. A new challenge was shared tonight – Ugly Fabric challenge! For the November meeting, bring what you consider some ugly fabric from your stash (fat quarter or larger) and these will be swapped to make something new for yourself. Finished pieces are due in January.
Sew Days: Sew Days will continue at Five Eighth Seams for the next several months. Nov. 16 is the next sew day.
Charity: 3 quilts were shown tonight as donated. Kate has more kits available for quilts and pillowcases. She is specifically looking for twin size or no smaller than 50” and in colors appropriate for males and females. These go to Thornwell in Clinton, SC for foster children.
Deb Busby from Cobblestone spoke about the WNC quilt sew day they held yesterday to make and send quilts to needy affected by Hurricane Helene. They have quilt kits available to make and send. If interested, contact Deb or Elaine Woodward.
Outreach: Amy handed out flyers and a signup sheet for guild members to participate in the COC Halsey Institute’s Art In Motion Art Parade on Oct. 26 @ 11:00 Members participating will wear their quilts and carry banners. Contact Amy for more information and to sign up.
Show & Tell: Several beautiful quilts, bags, and other assorted items were shared by members. See them on the CMQG blog page or on Facebook.
Guild Leadership: Interested in getting more involved in CMQG? Several officers are needed for 2025. Contact Jean for more information. New members are encouraged because it’s a great way to learn more about the guild, National MQG and other members. Please volunteer for Vice President or Secretary.
Workshops: The Improv Workshop by Annabel Wrigley (in-person) is tentatively scheduled for May 17, 2025.
