October 2017 meeting minutes

GUILD BUSINESS
Our president, Lynn, welcomed guests to the meeting.  We had two tiny cute visitors, Lucy and Anna.  Maybe they'll grow up to be quilters.

We discussed upcoming MQG webinars on Quilts of India (10/31) and How Do I Quilt It? (11/8).  Webinars can be found on the MQG website under Resources.

Plans were made for the annual holiday party and gift exchange scheduled for Sunday, Dec 3 at 2pm.

COMMITTEES
Charity quilt top was completed by the group at our last sew day.   Lynn will quilt and Kim will bind.  Quilt will be sent to Pasadena to be shown at QuiltCon 2018.  The quilt will then be returned to our guild to be given to a local charity.

SHOW AND TELL
Lynn C brought in her gorgeous paper pieced elephant quilt.  Pattern is by Violet Craft.
Connie asked for advice on her amazing chicken quilt.
Angie made these great baskets out of fabric scraps and upholstery piping.

Alice brought lots of finished lovelies - a bunny pillow (pattern by Elizabeth Hartman), a hand quilted pumpkin patch quilt and a tactile lap quilt made for a friend.  She also showed off her t-shirt showing a husband holding a quilt.  Hilarious.
Whitner made this sweet quilt for daughter Lucy, who was in attendance.

Lynn B brought in a Wooly Moo highland cow brought back from a recent trip to Scotland.  And she shared her beautiful quilt made from Rifle Paper Co fabric.

Cheryl also had lots of finishes.  She showed off some aprons made from vintage fabrics, a box pouch, an improv circle quilt she started on a Saturday sew day and a t-shirt quilt made for a family member.
Amy has been working on items from the Stitched Sewing Organizers book by Aneela Hooey.
Hope made a quilt from Crown Royal bags for her son.

Karen made a bar quilt from Tula Pink fabrics and then overdyed it because she wasn't happy with the colors.  Great idea, Karen!!  She also made a little bat mini quilt for Halloween.

Colleen made a quilt top as part of the MQG's flying geese challenge.

Phoebe made a wall hanging with out of Liberty fabrics from Blair Stocker's book Wise Craft Quilts.  She also finished her Christmas tree quilt started at JK Modern Quilt Camp, which she'll be sending to her cousin.

Delynne made a scrap challenge quilt to be donated to a local nursing home.  She also made an Urban Abacus quilt for her daughter.  She prefers to use wool batting on her quilts.
