Charity quilt sew day for QuiltCon!

The Modern Quilt Guild challenged local guilds to make a quilt that would be displayed at QuiltCon and then be returned to the local guild afterwards to be given to charity.  We were asked to work collaboratively to create a quilt using a predetermined color palette and alternate grid design.  Several of us got together one Saturday in October and set to work. We were inspired by Jacquie Gering's chapter in Lucky Spool's Essential Guide to Modern Quiltmaking.

Geri brought fabric for us to use.  We decided to piece improvisationally using grey as our background color.
Phoebe, Sandy, Jenifer and Alice hard at work
We pieced and cut, pieced and cut - sometimes borrowing scraps discarded by a friend - each of us making blocks that measured about 18" long until we had a design wall full!
Look at those featherweights!!  Modern quilters do love not so modern machines. . .

Our wonderfully talented friend Geri took all of these bits home with her and made them play nicely together until a quilt top was formed.

And then she was sweet enough to quilt it for us on her longarm machine as well.  Thanks Geri!!

Next stop Austin!!  Can't wait to see this little baby hanging up at QuiltCon!  Hope we'll see you all there too!

Special thanks to those in the guild that helped with all the piecing and quilting along the way - Geri Smith, Sandy Goodwin, Amy Southerland, Alice Anthony, Jenifer Lake, Kim McPeake and Phoebe Harrell.  And thanks to Amy, Kim and Geri for the photos!
