February 2013 meeting recap

In attendance:   Phoebe, Tamie, Jackie, Juanita, Rita, Pat, Cathy, Geri, Ginny, Kelly B, Sandy, Kelly M, Alice, Delynne, Janet, Kate, and Kim.

New in attendance:  Welcome to Juanita Gowder and Becky Hurwitz.

Phoebe:  Updated us on QuiltCon 2013 and those that attended this past weekend in Austin, Texas.  The next QuiltCon will be in 2015, not sure of the location at this time.  The main Modern Quilt Guild will be updating their website to be user friendly with local guilds/chapters.  We can join as an affiliate of the Modern Quilt Guild and would be granted a chapter membership and the associated benefits.  This means that a membership fee would be paid to the MQG.  We will be updated as news comes out.

Sea Island Quilters sent us a list of their 2013 programs and workshops.

Beaufort MQG:  everyone should have received an email about their upcoming quilt exhibit.  The dates of the exhibit will be April 2-May 31, 2013.  We need to let Rhonda of Tabby’s know if you have anything to exhibit or sell.

Show & Tell:
QuiltCon 2013 pictures will be uploaded to a website where all can have access.  Phoebe and Tamie shared their blocks and experiences from the Denyse Schmidt class.  Plans are being made for them to share their information to have our own class.

Sandy shared her experience with Weeks/Ringle and Valerie Wells classes.  Also showed a new bag she made.
Kelly B shared quilt blocks.  Kelly and her writing partner created a fat quarter bundle for Fat Quarter Shop.com and she is creating a kaleidoscope quilt with it.
Ginny made a bag with her Madrona Road by Violet Craft for the Michael Miller Challenge – the Queen bag by Moda Bakeshop.

Geri shared her latest quilt completed on her long arm.

Kim shared two quilts, one from the Sheri Lynn Wood’s class at QuiltCon.

Alice used Madrona Road fabric in a baby boy quilt.  She also shared an embroidery alphabet quilt-the pattern was first printed in the newspapers in the 1930’s.

Delynne used her Madrona Road fabric in a pieced hexagon quilt top and showed a small quilt from her grandmother.

Block Swap:
Kelly B received 16 blocks tonight.  She is making the Scrappy Trip Around the World quilt.

Our fifth block swap belongs to Alice.  She passed out white fabric to be used in her block along with our red fabrics.  We will be doing the Pinball block, pattern has been emailed to all.   If you did not receive them let Phoebe know.

Sandy will be our next person in the swap.

Our next meeting will be March 26, 2013 at 6:30 pm.  Hope to see you all there!
