Business: Amy opened the meeting with a review of Quilt Camp, which was held this past weekend. Congratulations and appreciation to Kim McPeake for organizing each year! Send your camp pictures to Amy to post on the blog. Amy prepared a calendar for events up to EOM December and distributed them. (see below for dates and events summary).
Nominations for Guild President are needed for 2024 by October meeting. Voting will be at the November meeting.
Please consider supporting your guild. Linda gave a presentation about participation in the Coastal Carolina Fair and the Cobblestone Quilt Show (details attached).
There are still openings for the weekend retreat with the Quilters of S.C. www.quiltersofsc.org October 19-22 in Myrtle Beach. The annual Spring meeting with classes and luncheon will be March 8-10 in Camden, SC. Membership is $20/year and required for participation.
Challenges: The Barn Quilt challenge is due next meeting, September 26. Should be approximately 36”x36”. May be entered and displayed at the Fair and/or Quilt show. The Red and White Challenge is due @ the March 26 meeting.
Swap: Scissors Case swap due Nov. 28 meeting. No specific design or size.
Program: Hexagons! Angie talked about various ways to sew and add hexagons to projects. We watched a brief YouTube video, “Making Hexies” from Simple Stitches Fabric Shop. Recommend purchasing papers with holes punched in the center for easy removal on Etsy. Programs is interested in your ideas! Please see Angie for program ideas.
Outreach: Discussed having a CMQG booth at the Fair with demonstrations. Phoebe will get cards printed up for distribution at events and local quilt shops. Other outreach includes West Ashley Farmer’s Market table and quilt display.
Charity: Several more quilts were turned in for the Children’s charity. Keep making and bringing in. 40x60 size is preferred. Also pillowcases and tote bags. See Kate Weston for details.
Membership: Welcome to our 2 visitors and new members! If you are a new member and haven’t received yours, please see Jean for your CMQG patch and Kim for a picture for our membership directory.
Show & Tell: 9 members showed quilts. Connie showed the finished Quilt Bee quilt that several members participated in and was assembled at Quilt Camp. If you’re interested in coordinating a future Quilt Bee, see Connie for tips.
Coastal Carolina Fair and Cobblestone Quilt Show Details: POC is Linda Ambrose
Coastal Carolina Fair: Thurs., Oct. 26- Sunday,Nov. 5. Times weekdays, 3-10; weekends 10-10.
Need quilts submitted to display and volunteers to work 3-hour shifts at booth. 3-6 weekdays and weekend shifts are 10-1, 1-4, 4-7.
Cobblestone Quilt Show: March 15 & 16, 2024 at the North Charleston Athletic Center. Volunteers are needed for setup on March 14, take down on March 16. Also Hostess volunteers needed on 15 & 16. If you are interested in displaying a quilt at the show, registrations for submissions are due no later than 13 January.
