MAY 2024 MEETING MINUTES

Business:  Our President, Jean, opened the meeting with introductions.  We had several guests attending.  The Berkeley Modern Quilt is hosting its annual Airing of the Quilts on September 21. More information to come.

Charity:  Kate is looking for quilt tops made from the kits she distributed to the guild.  If you have a finished top but aren’t able to quilt it, she is happy to do the quilting if you’ll return them to her.  She is currently working on quilts for an older group of girls. 

 

Social media:  Lex is moving out of state so we’re looking for someone to handle our Facebook and Instagram accounts.  Please contact Jean if you’re interested.  

 

Special events:  Susan reports that we have one definite slot open for our October 19^th class (https://eudaimoniastudio.com/quilt-patterns/wayfinder-quilt-pattern) but that she is talking to the instructor to see if she can add four more slots.  If you have not paid your $20 deposit, it is due by August 15 with the balance being due by October 15.  

 

Swaps and challenges:  Kim and Rick went over the guidelines for our latest challenge where you brought in an old piece of clothing or textile that was swapped with another guild member.  That guild member had to make something new out of it and give it back.  We had great participation!  Thanks to all who took part.  

 

Our next challenge is to take a traditional churn dash block and reinterpret it to make it modern.  There are no fabric or size restrictions for the finished projects.  These will be due at the November meeting.  

 

Program:  Kerry led our Trash to Treasure yard sale.  Members brought in fabric, notions, books etc that they no longer wanted and were able to shop what other members brought for a $10 donation – although somehow we raised $255.  Thank you to the kind member who donated an extra $5.  This money will be used to buy items to fill our Christmas stockings in December.

APRIL 2024 MEETING MINUTES

Business:        Jean opened the meeting with introductions. We have 2 new sister guild members tonight: Pat Perry and Jane McKenzie. Welcome to our new members.  The Berkeley Modern Quilt Guild will again feature its Airing of the Quilts September 21; more information to come.  

Kim McPeake is updating the membership directory so if you are a new member, please provide her a picture and information to be included. Your personal information is not sold or shared. Several new members asked about name tags. CMQG does not provide nametags, instead, we leave it up to each member’s creativity to design one to wear to each meeting. When you wear a nametag, you can then enter your name into the drawing to win prizes each month.

Program:   Susan Brandt presented on how to add a Faced Binding and Hanging Sleeve to a wall-hanging quilt project. Jean will email the instructions to members.

Next month, be sure to bring your craft supplies and $10 for our annual Trash to Treasure event. Your “trash” may be someone else’s “treasure!” Bring supplies & 10 to donate, then “shop” for free!

Challenges/Swaps:  Fabric Swatch projects are due next month. See Rick or Kim for more details.

Sew Days:   Cathy Beemer will not be at May’s sew day at Five Eighth Seams. Louisa Enright will be the POC in May. It will be an open sew or any craft you want to bring. 

Charity:  Kate requested more tote bags or pillowcases. We are also making for teens, so please make and donate teen-size (50x50 – twin) quilts and pillowcases appropriate for a male or female teen.

Workshops:  Susan discussed the upcoming workshop and provided a sign-up sheet for those interested in the Wayfinder Quilt.  The workshop is Oct, 19, 10-5. $20 is required to hold your place and the remaining $35 is due NLT Oct. 15.  The Improv Workshop by Annabel Wrigley (in-person) is tentatively scheduled for May 17, 2025. 

Show & Tell: 6 members participated in Show and Tell tonight.

MARCH 2024 MEETING MINUTES

Business:        Jean displayed a slide show of member’s quilts displayed at the Cobblestone Quilt Guild. She also displayed and went over the 2024 Guild Calendar, which will be electronically linked to membership emails, as well as a link to the Guild blog. Congrats to all who won ribbons at the Quilt Show!

Casey explained the Quilting Bee she’s organizing using recycled fabrics. See Casey if you are interested in joining the Bee.

Welcome to our 3 new members tonight: Rachel Cochran, Yvonne Coleman (sister/associate) and Dianna Park.

Program:   Susan Brandt presented the logistics and options in topic and venue she researched for the 2024 Class Event. She presented 10 class options and membership voting decided upon the Wayfinder Quilt class taught by Brooke Shankland of Eudaimonia Studios. She will teach virtually at the Park West Clubhouse in Springfield on October 19^th.  In acknowledgement that we should be planning an event at least one year in advance, there was a “tie” vote for 2025 class event for either Karen Bolan curves class OR Annabel Wrigley improv piecing class. Thanks to Susan and her committee for all their work on thisvent.

April will feature Susan Brandt on a quilting program she’s participated in. May is the Guild Trash to Treasure so gather and bring your crafting items to donate for the market fundraiser. 

Challenges/Swaps: The Red and White Unleashed challenge participants displayed their entries this month.  Thanks Connie for the inspiration!  We had a great turnout.  

Rick and Kim handed out the scrap swap tonight which is due in May. Must use the fabric in the bag plus from your stash.

Sew Days:  Sew Days are the 3^rd Saturday of the month, usually held at Five Eighth Seams, 9:30-12:30 to work on anything. Cathy Beemer will feature “strippers’ – ideas to use scraps in strips for improv quilting.  Bring solid color scraps. 

Charity: Kate requested more tote bags or pillowcases. Keep making charity quilts to donate to kids. 40x60 size is preferred. See Kate Weston for details and tags. 

Show & Tell: Four members participated in Show and Tell tonight plus Rick showed off his amazing quilted jumpsuit.
