Business
We had 30 members and 3 visitors. Whitner opened the meeting at 6:30pm.
Charity
The next Sew Night with the girls at
Florence Crittenton will be Wednesday, July 10.
Dinner is at 5:30pm and sewing begins around 6:00pm. Susan will be leading the group in making
Zippered Toiletry Kits. All materials
will be provided, but we could use more
members to join us as well as additional sewing machines and extension cords. Please e-mail Connie if you are able to join
in on July 10.
Challenges
Two-Color Quilt Challenge for AQS is due on August 27,
2019. Please add a hanging sleeve
to the back of your quilt as we will be photographing the quilts in September. Check out the additional finishes on
Instagram at #chsmqgtwocolorchallenge !
QuiltCon Charity Quilt 2020 – **Design ideas are due at the July 23 meeting.** The guidelines are on the MQG website. The theme is TEXT. The designs will be collected at the July
meeting and Whitner will be sending out information on voting by email for your
favorite. If we decide as a group NOT to
participate we will come up with another Community Challenge for the second
half of 2019.
Christmas in July - Pin Cushion Swap
Have lots of solids leftover from
brainstorming your Two Color Challenge?
Gather them up and make a pin cushion to swap at the July meeting. The theme is MADE FROM SOLIDS and the
pincushion can be any size. Crushed
walnut shells mixed with fiberfill make an excellent filler for your pincushion
and will help keep pins sharp. Contact
Kim if you have questions!
CMQG Handout
Phoebe distributed and presented the
CHSMQG Handbook to provide a valuable reference for the framework of our meetings, policies and general organizational
structure. The Handbook was put together by volunteer members
appointed by the Executive Board. Everyone
is encouraged to read through the document and reach out to Phoebe if you have
questions or comments.
What is Modern Quilting?
Lynn presented an overview of Modern
Quilting, gathering background from
presentations by Mary Fons and resources from MQG. Modern Quilting involves applying modern
aesthetics to quilts, but these attributes
can be seen in older quilts as well (Amish, Gees Bend). Lynn touched on the
following elements seen in Modern Quilts:

Lynn wrapped up her talk by showing
quilts and we decided which techniques were used in the quilts.

at the October meeting. The guild will
provide paper templates. If you would
like acrylic templates Wild and Wooly will order them. Please sign up or let Amy know.

Show and Tell
Connie showed off the front and back of her 2019 Pantone Challenge Quilt called "Finding My Other Half"
Susan shared a lovely wall hanging she made.
Amy had two great two color challenge quilts.
Rick's two color challenge quilt might be the largest of them all!
Jenifer also shared an improv pieced mini quilt for the two color challenge.
Irene was our winner for most quilts shared this month with three - a quilt made from Kaffe Fassett shot cottons, a 'Midnight at the Oasis' quilt designed by Jen Kingwell and her two color challenge quilt.
Jean also had a gorgeous - and large! - entry for the two color challenge.
Kathy is the queen of king sized (or bigger!) quilts and this one was a stunner.
Karen had a very minimalist and innovative two color challenge quilt.
Angie shared a painted quilt block!
Lynn finished her mind bending quilt top she started in our Sherri Lynn Wood class in May.
