APRIL 2025 MEETING MINUTES

Jean Craig, President, called the meeting to order at 6:30 PM. In person attendance was 25 members and 1 guest, with 3 members on Zoom for a total of 29 participants.

Business / Announcements:

·      Jean reviewed the online calendar. May 17 is Sew Day and May 27 is the next meeting with a Trash to Treasure program. Attendees may shop with a $10 donation, the funds for which are reserved to fill Christmas stockings in December. Please bring your treasures to the meeting to swap with others.

·      The deadline to enroll in the Annabel Wrigley Special Event is May 10 and we need 9 more attendees in order to host the event. Please spread the word of this event to others.

Committee Updates:

·      SC District news: Upcoming dates shared by Linda Ambrose:

o   Coastal Carolina fair 10/30 - 11/9

o   Tunnel to Towers Foundation – goal is to open the facility on 11/11/25 and there is a need for 100 quilts; the dimensions are no larger than 64” x 64”. Please contact Linda for more information.

o   Cobblestone Quilt Show 3/19/2026 - 3/21/2026:

·      Charity: Kate Weston displayed 3 quilts made by members and provided pillowcase fabric and a quilt kit for members to sew.  

·      Special Events: The upcoming workshop, Annabel Wrigley of Little Pincushion Studio, is scheduled for Saturday, 6/21 10 AM – 5 PM at the Park West Clubhouse with “Deep Dive Into Improv.” 9 slots are available and must be filled to continue with the event. The cost is $100 and includes lunch. 

·      Outreach: The guild seeks an Outreach committee chair volunteer; please contact Jean Craig for more information.

·      Sew Days: Louisa Enright will instruct on stretch canvas during the May 17 Sew Day. She displayed 10” and 14” examples. Please bring your quilt piece to frame at the session. The border needs to allow at least 1” to wrap around to the back. 

·      Membership: Kim McPeake updated the membership directory and it was distributed by Jean.

·      Challenges: The repurposed challenge swap is due next month. The next challenge will be shared at the June meeting.

·      Molly Piepenburg’s quilt coat donated last month: Jean requested input from the membership for raising money for charity with the coat, such as a raffle or silent auction. Please contact Jean with your ideas.

Program:  Donna Tello of Spools Quilt & Stitchery presented, accompanied by Liz with Free Spirit Fabrics. The shop is at 3377 S. Morgans Point Rd, Suite 407, Mt Pleasant. The shop is hosting a charity opportunity this Saturday at the shop to sew pillowcases from 10-2  for Comfort Cases, providing them to foster children. All are welcome to bring their machines during this time and sew. The shop sells Janome machines and will eventually sell Juki. The classroom can hold 6 participants. Liz displayed several upcoming Free Spirit fabric collections.
