Business – Whitner opened the meeting at 6:40pm, welcoming 24 members (1 new) and 2 visitors who were in town for the AQS Show.
Swaps and Challenges - Thirty quilts were photographed for our Two-Color
Challenge and the submission to AQS for a Special Exhibit at the Charleston
2020 show is on its way. Thanks to Kim
for a great challenge, Connie and Karyn
for photographing our quilts, and
everyone who participated! The guild
will start up with a new round of Swaps and Challenges in 2020.
Charity - On Wed. Sept. 11, four guild members brought their sewing machines and joined the girls at
Florence Crittenton sewing baby blankets.
Connie shared with us the many wonderful experiences the girls have had
gaining confidence with sewing and being able to make something for their
babies. For the Nov. 13 Sew-In, the girls requested their own project - matching fleece beanies for Mom and baby! For a special treat in December, we would like to have guild members make
stockings (10 – 12 needed) and bring in
goodies and items to stuff the stockings with to give the girls. You can use
any pattern you like to make a 12-14 inch stocking and stuffable items can be
brought to the Oct. and Nov. guild meetings.
Sign up with Connie if you would like to make a stocking!
Program – Quilt Fiber Artist Torreah ‘Cookie’ Washington presented
a trunk show of her elaborate fiber art quilts honoring important stories and
people in her life. The quilts she
shared honored Maya Angelou, Stevie
Wonder, Black Madonna and Black Mermaids
and Merwomen. Cookie is an
award-winning master art quilter and curator.
Born in Morocco, Cookie is a fourth
generation textile artist. You can see
her most recent curated exhibit ‘SC
Quilts: Then and Now’ in conjunction with FOLKFabulous at the SC
State Fair in Columbia Oct. 9 - 20, 2019.
On Thursday Oct. 10 you can design a mini fabric mosaic with Cookie from
12 – 6pm.
Show and Tell

She also brought in the sweetest baby quilt made for her sister who is expecting her first child.
Karen showed off a sweet little throw she made.
Jean shared a Christmas quilt she made from a block of the month pattern by Figtree.
And the back was just as cute as the front!
