Business/ Announcements: New President Kerry Bevers opened the first meeting of 2026. She highlighted February dates and events to include the 2/24 meeting, which will focus on new committee planning. Tonight’s program is the Color Theory Challenge. Each participant received 3 paint chips of colors to use in various hues in a quilted project. Over 20 participants showed their entries in the challenge.
Connie Zafiris is heading up the committee on Programs and is actively soliciting ideas. Please contact Connie with your idea.
Alice Anthony has stepped up to coordinate the Christmas stocking activity. Tonight she shared several photos of the children’s holiday party in December 2025, when the elementary class where her daughter teaches received their stockings from Santa. The Guild recognized Susan Brandt for her selfless activity these past years in heading up this effort.
Kim McPeake will publish a new directory in March once the 2026 memberships have settled.
Linda Ambrose told the membership about the Quilters of South Carolina group. Their next meeting is March 13 in Columbia which includes a luncheon and class for $50. This is open to members only, so you must join online first at “SCQuilters.com” for membership and more information. She also reminded us that the Cobblestone Quilt Guild’s Quilt Show is March 20-22 at Trident Technical School and encouraged everyone to attend. Rick Sanchez is teaching a class at the show.
The Membership Committee will coordinate nametags, too.
A show of hands indicated that many members will be attending QuiltCon in Raleigh February 19-22.
Challenges/Swaps: Irene Waalboer and Elaine Woodard are heading up this effort in 2026 and welcome suggestions. Thanks to Rick Sanchez and Kim McPeake for their fun challenges over the past several years.
Sew Days: The next sew day is at Five Eighth Seams on February 21 & regularly on the 3rd Sat. each month. There was discussion on whether to continue sew days, particularly in February since it conflicts with QuiltCon in Raleigh. It was decided by membership to keep sew days each month. A new Sew Day coordinator is needed. Please consider volunteering.
Charity: Molly Piepenberg is the 2026 Charities committee and is asking for donated quilts for the various children’s charity groups that we service.
Show & Tell: In addition to the beautiful Color Challenge quilts, 8 members showed their recently completed projects.
2025 President Jean Craig was gifted her beautiful flowers and bees quilt as thanks from the membership for her leadership this past year.
Phoebe Harrell offered that if interested, this quilt pattern could be a Guild Quilt-Along project for any interested member. Details to be shared at the February meeting.
Guild Leadership: Interested in getting more involved in the guild? Several committee leaders – Community Outreach, Special Events, and Sew Day Coordinator - are needed for 2026. New members are encouraged because it’s a great way to learn more about the guild, National MQG and other members. Thanks to those who have served, to those who accepted nominations and congratulations and thanks to our new 2025-26 guild leadership!
