September 2017 meeting minutes

NEWS AND BUSINESS -
Reminder that Chawne Kimber will be teaching on Sunday, November 12 from 10am - 5pm at Five Eighth Seams in West Ashley.  Class will be on small piecing.  Fees are $80.  Contact charlestonmodernquiltguild@gmail.com if interested for more details.

Our next sew day is scheduled for Saturday, Oct 21st at Five Eighth Seams in West Ashley. We will be working on the QuiltCon challenge charity quilt.  Kelly Biscopink has come up with a beautiful design for us.  All fabric will be provided.  There will be no sew days in November or December.

Our November meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, November 14th.

Our holiday party will be held on Sunday, December 3rd at 2pm at Cathy Beemer's house with location information to follow via email.  The gift exchange this year will be a 'Dirty Santa' swap.  There is a $20 limit and items can be handmade or purchased.

JK Modern Quilt Camp has been scheduled for August 23 - 26, 2018 at Camp St Christopher on Seabrook Island.  Next year's camp will include Thursday night.  Application can be found here and first payments are due to Kim by October 13.

The Coastal Carolina Fair is being held October 26 - November 5.  The fair will be accepting quilts for display at no fee.  Intake for quilts will be on October 21 - 22.  Registration is done at dropoff in the Creative Arts Building.  They are also looking for volunteers for the quilters' table inside the Creative Arts Building.  Volunteers receive free tickets and parking passes for the fair.

Pat Schneider and Donna Walters visited to tell us about a new store opening in Summerville called Sew Sweet located across the street from the library.  Pat is also the head of the Cobblestone Quilt Show for 2018 which will be held March 9 - 10 at the Omar Shrine Temple in Mt Pleasant.  Registration will be January 11 with quilts being dropped off on March 5.  More information can be found here.

We swapped scrap bags at this month's meeting.  The October challenge is to make something with the scraps received for show and tell.

SHOW AND TELL -
Jenifer made this charity quilt top out of the black and white blocks made for the April meeting challenge.
Phoebe made a cute iron caddy for her pal Lynn.
Phoebe also made a stunning foundation paper pieced elephant wall hanging.
 Whitner took a class on sewing with knits and made this adorable t-shirt that we all wanted.  Pattern is the Straight Stitch Designs Montlake Tee.
 Love this cute Halloween themed pillow by Kim!
 Sandy is working on a sample for a class she will be teaching next year at Camp Kanuga in North Carolina.
 She also showed a variation on the same pattern.
 Amy made this sweet quilt for her brother and sister-in-law for a wedding gift.  She chose the colors based on the bride's bouquet.
 The back of the quilt was dreamy too!
 Cathy sure put a lot of hard work into this tablecloth she made for her kitchen table!
 Alice made this "Letters to Santa" quilt top for her grandson, Wilson.
 The back of the quilt has little envelopes and is Alice's husband's favorite part.
 Alice put together this fun little Christmas tree mini from blocks she received at the JK Modern Quilt Camp swap.
 Love this pink and grey strip quilt Alice made.  
Lynn made this Style Arc Dimity top out of some gorgeous, flowy rayon.  She made some other shirts too but I was too jealous to take any more pictures.....

Our next meeting will be Tuesday, October 24th.  Don't forget to bring your nametags, show and tell and your scrap challenge!

August 2017 meeting minutes

NEWS AND BUSINESS -

Holiday themed mug rugs were exchanged as part of a challenge put forth by our swaps and challenges committee.

Cathy Beemer gave a presentation and demonstration on paper piecing.

SHOW AND TELL -
Alice brought in her 100 blocks in 100 days quilt made entirely from solids.  This quilt was also hand quilted!
 Lynn brought her improv circles quilt she made at our last sew day.
 Lynn also had a sweet mermaid quilt top she made for a family friend.
 Each member of Lynn's family made a block for this quilt top at their annual summer family vacation.
 And finally, Lynn showed off these adorable vinyl, glitter and pom pom bags she made.
 Cheryl had a pillow for her couch made out of Charleston row house fabric.
 Cheryl also made an improv curve quilt top at our last sew day.
 Cheryl made this quilt for her living room out of a Kaffe Fasset charm pack.
 Cheryl brought in a pillow for her chair that she used at Quilt Camp.
 Whitner finished her gorgeous sew together bag.
 Cathy made a beautiful kaleidoscope quilt.
 Colleen made these sweet little beaded stars.  She's lucky that she left with all of the stars she brought........  ;)
 Colleen also brought in a quilt top that she made for the Pantone quilt challenge.
 Pam brought in a felted wool art quilt.
 Angie made this bed scarf out of all polka dotted fabric for her daughter.
 And another improve curves quilt made by Connie.
She loved those improv curves so much she also made this mug rug!

September meeting is scheduled for Tuesday the 26th.
