January 2023 Meeting Minutes

Charleston Modern Quilt Guild, Jan. 24 2023

Business

Kim M. is accepting registrations for Quilt Camp; forms provided. Phoebe, Connie, Casey & Cathy’s quilts accepted for Quilt Con. 

Artfields in Lake City- email to follow with dates for field trip.  Do we want to take a field trip to Lake City, SC for art show in April? Cathy has a quilt in the show. 

Committees solicited members and ideas were brainstormed for each committee. 

QuiltCon- email to follow.  Show of hands (majority) who is going to Quilt Con in Atlanta to coordinate for carpooling, etc.   

Should guild do a “Quilt Bee” for Quilt Con in Raleigh 2024? - Connie willing to lead.  Please email Connie if you wish to participate at connie@coastarchitects.net

Charity

Alice talked about delivering stockings to school kids in December. 

Challenge

Eyes challenge 6 participants Kate, Alice, Sandy, Amy, Kerry and Jean did show & tell; still open for entries – 5”x 18.5” finished piece.

Show & Tell of Improv Series quilts. Alice and Jean finished quilt tops for the series (Jean even started a second series)!

Program

Casey talked about Labeling Quilts and demonstrated samples. Linen fabric used and included Name of Recipient, Year and Quilter Name. Can also use a micron pen instead of embroidery.

Connie provided handout on how to add a sleeve on the back of the quilt for displaying. 

Brainstorming exercise for program ideas.

Charleston Modern Quilt Guild

September 28, 2021

Business: – Connie opened the in person and Zoom meeting at 6:30pm with 26 members and 2 guests. 

Program: -  The program featured Tara Faughnan via Zoom.  She is a professional freelance textile designer and quilter.  She started quilting in 2001 and worked for Michael Miller Fabrics.  Tara will be leading a workshop via zoom on Oct. 9, Color Interaction and Oct. 10, Give and Take Improv.  Her contact information linktr.ee/tarafaughnan

Sew Days:    The Oct. 15 sew date will focus on the Gus Tool Bag.  The pattern can be found from  Indigobirddesign on Etsy. The November sew date is November 13.

Swaps and ChallengesA Christmas ornament swap will happen at the November meeting.  It can be any handmade ornament.

CharitySusan handed out templates for our holiday charity stocking project.  The stockings will be given to 2nd graders from Sanders-Clyde Creative Arts Elementary School and are due at the November meeting.  The stocking stuffer sign up will be available at the October meeting.  

Quilt Camp 2022 – Quilt camp for next year is Aug. 25-28, 2022.  Look for more information from Kim soon.

Quilted Coats – The coats are due at the October meeting.

Cobblestone Quilt Show – The quilt show is March 11-12, 2022.  Over 200 ribbons will be awarded.  Some of the many categories included in the show include wearable (quilted jackets), bed, wall, duet and miniatures.  Deadlines are in January 2022.

Our next meetings are Oct. 26 and Nov. 9 in person and Zoom.  

Show and Tell:  It was wonderful to quilts and book covers from Lynn C., Phoebe, Jean, Amy, Lynn B., Alice, Kate, Susan and Peggy.

 Charleston Modern Quilt Guild

August 24, 2021

Business: – Connie opened the in person and Zoom meeting at 6:30pm with 24 members. 

Program: -  The program presented by Camela Guevara focused on visible mending.  Camela is a fiber artist and painter in Charleston, SC. She creates handmade monuments to unsung labor, as well as expressive paintings in gouache. She has been teaching embroidery for 7 years, and loves to share this lighthearted craft with folks looking for a creative outlet.  She demonstrated various mending styles that were not only decorative but also functional.  More information can be found on her website:  https://www.camelaguevara.com/ It was fun and inspiring.  Thank you Amy setting up the program.

CharitySusan has received 47 pillowcases.  She handed out baby quilt kits to be finished in March.
